About ToolStackReport
Independent software reviews for small electrical, HVAC and plumbing contractors.
Who writes this
ToolStackReport is written by a small editorial team, not a single named personality. Our background is field-service operations and the software side of the trades: quoting, scheduling, job costing and invoicing for crews of one to fifteen people.
Articles carry the publication byline (ToolStackReport Editorial) rather than an invented author. If we later run a piece written by a named contributor, that person's real name and background will appear on it — we don't manufacture expertise to make a page look authoritative.
How we evaluate software
We buy the lowest paid tier of every product we recommend, then run it through the same five tasks: quote a job, schedule it, log materials, invoice it, and chase payment. A tool that can't survive that sequence on an Android phone with a weak signal doesn't get a recommendation.
Pricing and feature data comes from the vendor's own published pages, cross-checked against at least one independent source. Where a number couldn't be verified, the page says so instead of guessing.
How we make money
Affiliate commissions. When you buy through a link on this site, the vendor pays us a referral fee at no extra cost to you. That's the whole business model. We do not accept payment for placement, and any vendor that asks for a ranking gets told no. See the full affiliate disclosure.
About AI assistance
We use AI tools to gather public pricing and feature data and to draft structure. Every article is reviewed, corrected and rewritten by a human, and the judgement calls in each review — what breaks, who shouldn't buy, where the pricing traps are — come from actually using the product. If you find a number that's wrong, email us and we'll fix it with a visible correction note.
